Beautiful Stink are a grunge band who has first captivated me back in their 27/1/2023 Chippo Hotel gig, which would slowly accummulate across each gig I go to. Most prominent was The Duke 30/12/2023.
Stinging Roach is their debut song, and from the second they started the main riff, I immediately began headbanging to it. The main riff took me back to their gigs; when the crash cymbals came in, I unknowingly did boxing jabs. As Amour on vocals does occasional boxing jabs in the shows, it was natural for me to do the same to showcase my appreciation for Beautiful Stink.
The riffs are nicely thought out as the Drop D tuning evokes the 1990s grunge days. The verse utilises the megaphone which works effectively in conveying a point across: "It's a full moon in the sky; it's when you're poppy by." The chorus meanwhile showcases Amour's raw vocal delivery which pumps your adrenaline up. The bridge highlights Amour's flawless scream "let's go" which in turn will get you screaming with them should you see them live. And I implore you to do so at their 29/6/2024 Oxford Arts Factory gig where they'll be opening up for Battlesnake.
Overall Stinging Roach is a great workout song if you need to, say, lift dumbbells and jab a boxing bag. It has the energy. It has the enthusiasm. Most important, it has the motivationally driven notion to convince you to see them live.
