It’s Friday morning, the promise of the weekend looms large, and I wake to find Palace of the King have released an absolute killer new track – Children of the Evolution.
This one is short and sweet, at a little over 2 minutes, but it sure packs a wallop in those 2 minutes.
Big riffs, keys, thunderous rhythm section, guitars for days, and Tim Henwood’s distinct vocals layered over this huge sound. Leigh Maden has returned to the band, and the recently released tracks remind me very much of the early POTK when Leigh was onboard. The addition, or return, of Leigh on guitar has really filled out the sound. The band now features 3 guitarists, Tim, Leigh, and Sean Johnston, with Anthony Licciardi known to swap bass for guitar at times as well. That flexibility enables Tim to focus on vocals from time to time as the guitars are more than capably looked after.
Written by Tim Henwood and Anthony this track will be an instant favourite of the POTK live set. I have no doubt about that. The band is rounded out with Sean, again doing double duty on keys and guitar, and Cam McGlinchey on drums.
Do yourself a favour today and have a listen, either by clicking the link below for the accompanying YouTube video or checking it out on your favourite streaming platform (links to Spotify and Palace of the King FB page at the bottom of the blog).
I’d assume we are not far away from some POTK live shows featuring all of these new tracks. If you are in Melbourne you may have been lucky enough to catch Tim, Sean and Leigh doing the stripped back Palace of the Blues show but I’m hoping that we will soon see the full band with their killer live sound on the road soon.
