Much like COVID delays that seem to have affected pretty much bloody everything these days, a new long player (which will be their fourth) from Palace of the King has been a long time coming (pardon the pun for fans in the know of POTK tunes). Over the last 3 years we have been drip fed a steady diet of tracks likely to be on the new album over the last couple of years.
This one, Friends in Low Places, is different though. Fans will be used to the blues rock influence across Palace of the King releases, but this one breaks the mould somewhat, and it's a right royal belter.
Short, sharp, up tempo, and heavily driven by the drums and bassline. Somehow, they manage to squeeze in 2 guitar solos in a 2 and half minute track. Keys, a signature of most POTK tunes take a back seat, but it’s there, most evident weaving some magic through that second guitar solo. It’s urgent, it rocks!
Check it out and get out and see them when they inevitably hit the road. It’s a show not to be missed.
