It's been a long time since Jason Bonham Rock N Rolled in Sydney. The son of drummer "Bonzo" John Bonham brought the mothership of Led Zeppelin to Enmore Theatre in early April.
With him was his band (JBLZE) featuring Dorian Heartsong on bass, James Dylan as their roaring singer and Alex Howland on mandolin, keyboards and acoustic guitars. The last piece of the puzzle was the amazing Jimmy Sakurai on lead guitar. He looked and played exactly like the rock god that is Jimmy Page. Together they weren't a tribute act but the closest thing to a Led Zeppelin reunion that you will get.
They captured the sound of Led Zeppelin's catalog with their setlist:
Immigrant Song
Good Times Bad Times
Over The Hills And Far Away
What Is and What Should Never Be
Ramble On
The Song Remains the Same
The Rain Song
Thank You
Going to California
Hey Hey What Can I Do
When The Levee Breaks
Since I've Been Loving You
No Quarter
The Ocean
Fool In The Rain
Kashmir
Stairway to Heaven
Whole Lotta Love
Rock N Roll
The songs sounded more authentic coming from Jason on drums, since it's in his blood. During the show, Jason told stories like how his grandmother beat his father and Keith Moon of The Who in a drinking competition, being a fan of The Police when he was younger and telling his dad that Stewart Copeland is a better drummer than him and
doing memories of doing the drum soundcheck for his father at his last Led Zeppelin show at Knewborth in 1979.
The concert made me feel What Is and What It Could Be if Led Zeppelin reunited 1 more time.
