Review and Photographs by Jordan Newton
Australia's guitar goddess, Orianthi, returned home for a string of shows across the country, making a stop at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville, Sydney on Friday night.
Opening up for Orianthi was the naturally gifted country singer Lily Grace. Lily got a good crowd attendance and participation with an acoustic set of her country pop tracks from her ARIA topping debut album "Old Enough To Know Better" and a few pub and country classics like Tennessee Whiskey and Take Me Home, Country Road, of which everyone participated in belting out. She brightened up the mood of the night with her positivity and her journey of which she mentioned she's moving to Nashville in the next couple of weeks. Wishing here the best of luck for her career.

Orianthi walked across the stage with her signature blues style fedora, custom PRS SE guitar, shades, laced and leather outfit and instantly blasted the roof off with the road trucking riff filled track "Light It Up". You knew from then you were in for a master class of guitar work.
"Is it loud enough for you guys?" - Orianthi asked the awe struck crowd
She along with Justin Andres on bass and Warren Trout on drums grooved and rocked a mix of new material from her new album "Rock Candy" along with some early hits like According To You and Heaven In This Hell. A highlight was to see her range of tracks in her set filled with classic rock, acoustic and the blues. Orianthi covered tracks from her heroes including Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix, Never Make A Move Too Soon by B.B. King and Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top (whom she supported at the age of 16). Truly making it her own.
Orianthi took a moment to acknowledge the terrible fires spreading across Los Angeles of which her friends and family are currently going through.
What caught got my attention was seeing her making a complicated guitar solo look casual, easy and effortless on songs like How Do You Sleep and What It's Gonna Be. Truly a testament of her 26 year long career as musician and setting the bar for female guitarists all over the world as one the top female guitarists of all time.
Orianthi showed on Friday night why she has been and still able to share the stage & recording studios with likes of Alice Cooper, Slash, Carrie Underwood, Carlos Santana, Holywood Vampires, Steve Vai and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. I remember seeing the Michael Jackson Documentary This Is It in cinemas as a teen and found it cool that an Aussie can go to new heights and given her "Time to Shine" as Michael Jackson put it and it shines she does.
