In the quiet back streets of Burwood Sydney lies 4 Burleigh Street. Very quiet now but back in the 1960s, this house played an important role in telling the story of Australia's greatest and biggest band, AC⚡DC.
The Young Family including siblings Angus, Malcolm, George, Stephen, Alex, Margret and William Jr all stayed and grew up in this small house after leaving the cold winter in Scotland 1963. Angus and Malcom would later join together to form AC/DC (got the name from Margret's sowing machine) inspired by George's success and fame with his band, The Easybeats.
The Young House, 4 Burleigh Street, Burwood
The band is currently celebrating over 50 years of selling out world tours and 18 hard rocking studio albums with hits like Highway to Hell, Back in Black, T.N.T. Thunderstruck and Let There Be Rock.
Artist Claire Foxton, along with the Young family and the Burwood Council have erected a street art mural of brothers Angus and Malcolm Young to cement their history with the suburb. The mural is located right next door to the former Young House in the carpark of 12 Burleigh Street. It depicts the Young brothers standing outside their house with Angus wearing is signature school boy uniform and their guitars, the Gibson SG (Angus) and Gretsch Jet Firebird (Malcolm).

The mural is a testament to the bands' longevity and significance in Australian Music. AC/DC are gearing up for another world tour to coincide their latest album PWR UP so hopefully they come back home and play in Sydney soon. Malcolm saddly passed away in 2017 however Angus with help from his nephew, Stevie Young, continue to keep the band going as Malcom would've wanted.
The Burwood Council are planning additional AC/DC commemorative projects for its 150 years of Burwood program, showcasing its history of diversity and immigrant community.
