Images and Words by Jordan Newton

Not a long time ago, in a galaxy not too far away......

Westfield Pitt Street Mall was a Mecca for Star Wars fans as they celebrated International Star Wars Day (May the 4th) with many activities and photo opportunities to do throughout the Sunday afternoon.

JEDI TRAINING:

As you crossed the street onto the main thoroughfares of Pitt Street Mall, you with instantly hit with a main stage booming the iconic sounds and footage from the many scenes of the Star Wars franchise, including a personal message from Diego Luna (Andor) wishing us a Happy Star Wars Day. Soon after, ques of younglings and Padawans formed to participate in their Jedi training. Step by step, the Jedi masters instructed their new recruits to replicate the basic Jedi signature lightsaber moves and positions.

"Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is" - Yoda

STAR WARS LEGO ZONE:

On the far end of the activities was the LEGO area. Tables were set up with bricks upon bricks for eager long term and new comer master builders to assemble a mini starship for them to take home. Further inside the actual LEGO store next door, the shop was decked out with amazing scenes from the Skywalker Saga (available for purchase) in LEGO form, a LEGO statue of Yoda and Mandalorian DJ.

PHOTO OPS:

The highlight and the best thing about the whole day was the photo opportunities with characters from the Star Wars Films and TV shows. The 501st Legion (a respected Star Wars cosplay volunteer organisation) ermbarked on patrolling the shopping centre while getting stopped for photos with eager fans and ongoers. The exciting thing about the event was the question "who am I gonna run into next?". Smack bang in the middle of mall was a full scale replica of a imperial TIE Fighter, safely guarded by the Empires' best and feared, happily obliging to take photos. From Chewbacca to Boba Fett, Darth Maul, C-3PO, Obi -Wan Kenobi, Emperor Palpatine, The Mandalorian and Anakin Skywalker, the expression to detail was impressive, most impressive

CANTINA BAND & BLUE MILK:

Filling the wide open space of the city's CBD with John Williams' timeless Star Wars scores was the Cantina Band. The 5 piece band played an enjoyable rotating set including the Imperial March, Mos Eisely Cantina Band, Main Theme, Victory Celebration (Return of The Jedi). On the bottom floors of the Westfield shopping complex (after walking passed the massive blown up Grogu) was a hidden gem area with many activities (mostly for kids) including face painting, galaxy donut decorating and tasting the iconic Blue milk (as seen in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope). Westfield members were given access to this Bantha milk refreshment which was much needed after a hot day of walking around this busy event.

Without a doubt, Westfield's Star Wars Day drew in the crowds into the city for this fun and special day for many devoted fans. Hopefully we get to this event become a reoccurring yearly event.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU, ALWAYS
