Hunting Thompson - Kelly's On King 13/5/2023

Even before Hunting Thompson performed the first song of their recent show at Kelly's On King, the band members did 10 second stretch warmups. This got me and the audience hyped and motivated for their indie rock tunes.

Hudson the bassist was swaying a lot which indicates how groovy his feet gets. Dane the keyboardist wore a jumper which gave me an impression that my camera is glitching due to the eclectic patterns. His keys are conveyed with eclectic thought, energy and passion to it. Paul the drummer showcased his energy freely once the drum fills and choruses happen. He would be moving his head and have a facial expression where he's surprised at something intriguing. What grabbed my attention is James, the rhythm guitarist and singer. When he sings a first verse of a couple of songs where his hands are not on the guitar fretboard or strumming, he does a series of postures which relaxes him at ease. These includes folding his arms, putting his arms behind his back and sometimes facing his bandmates. Thus, he has a vocal technique which resembles a cockatoo screeching. Hence, the whistling is unique as you don't get to hear it in indie rock bands like Hunting Thompson.

If Hunting Thompson are having another show, whether headline or support, I implore you to check them out. I enjoyed their set which got me bopping myself and my head.
